Thank you for replying, mates. Cfs3 has been subjected to (often right) criticism, because it's so d**n hungry for pumped up hardware and because of some quite pestering limits. But it's still an open-architecture sim, which means we have a chance to add what we need for our purposes. Release of add-ons went slower than usual because the basic structure of aircraft models and terrain is completely different from its predecessors, and it took time for developers to get the grip on it, but now it seems they're starting to give us something good to chew, and this shows the huge potential Cfs3 took hidden so far. ;D I invite you to have a look here, where I posted some screenies and descriptions of things to come: -> www.com-central.net/nphpbb/phpBB2new/viewtopic.php?t=9638I can anticipate you I got permission from Mathias Pommerien to distribute the Schrage Musik beta 110 to trusted mates, after the promise they won't spread it around. If you begin getting the stuff I point at there at Com-Central, then I'll provide you the rest. Just a couple of suggestion: the Cfs3 way to anti-cheat is rather tricky and touchy, so that while trying to join a multiplayer game you must have the very same stock of planes owned by the host, with neither the slighter modification over aircraft configs or air files - I can't say how, but Cfs3 detects every change So: 1. create a new folder into you Cfs3 main, call it "aircraft_stock" or "hangar" or what you prefer, and copy there the full aircraft stock directory - in any case you can get back to the stock installation. Do it only after you upgraded at 3.1a version! 2. avoid any attempt to modify your aircraft performances. A last note. I know very well IL2/FB is an outstanding sim - it gives no problems at all, great playability, superb graphics, smoother than silk... but just try to play a quick mission by night, and you'll get the picture - totally unfit for that task, let alone the choice of planes and sceneries So if we're going to plan activities for this platform, I'll be more than happy to join, but with the awareness it's not the proper environment for owls and bats. Uh... this place still lacks a beer smiley (B) Marco

weell since cfs3 is a open build flightsim and seems to be the most modern....i think it would be best to use the one as our standart sim....i don't know much bout il but are there enough secenery and suff for the western front? ??

Though Sturmvogel might be right - and many into the sim-community share this opinion of his, there are a few considerations that need to be made. The only undisputable advantage in keeping an old sim is that they usually are less hardware demanding, so that even those who have a low-end rig can get their slice of cake. But if run on proper machines, the newest products immediately show their advantages - for so long we wailed about cheating, and though with different approaches, both Cfs3 and IL2/FB solved this problem "almost" completely. If compared with Cfs3, Cfs1 is decidedly a bit too arcadish, while Cfs2, in despite of better graphics, looks a bit cartoonish - too polished and waxed to be a realistic re-enaction of an air-war - in passing, both these latter two are awful on the multiplayer side Then opinions may diverge on the choice between Cfs3 and IL2/FB - you know mine already -, but no matter which of the two you select as your favourite, they're both faaaaaaaaar superior in many respects, and mostly on the multiplayer side, which after all should be the one we're paying our attention to. On the hardware side, the main difference is that: - IL2/FB: without a proper rig, you neither can install it, so forget about it - but if you have the right machine, it goes so smoothly you don't have to worry about this anymore. - Cfs3: you can load it even on a wheelbarrow, and it will run, and you'll be able to fly, but graphics will be so poor that you'll throw up - just upgrade to a high-end pc, push all the graphic sliders to the max, tweak a bit here and there, and you will feel so immersed that you'll forget the passing of time Woosh, wrote a novel, I'm tired ;D Marco

thx rodion ^^
as adlerblitz notet in cfs3 the allieds land in the netherlands (1942) and not in the normandy in 1944
so cfs3 is more fictional
but i must say i miss in all 3 cfs's the gun effects of IL-2

Hi, Sturmvogel Did you try those IL2 gun effects in a quick night mission? They're amazing by day, when you see the trails of tracers and you get an idea of where the heck your aiming at, but they're a calamity by night, when you get totally blinded and neither can see if you're going to ram into your target Let alone the fact that night-fighters strived to avoid the use of tracers, so not to let their opponents to detect them. Special effects into Cfs3 can be added at will - just have a look here: -> theghostfiles.org/but honestly I didn't install any of them - I need to pass unseen, fireworks would betray me Regarding to the historical circumstances, maybe you've been misleaded by the campaigns included in there: effectively, some of the first missions have place close to the Netherlands, but I couldn't see anything there suggesting that the Allies had landed there instead of Normandy. Sure you know that, before and during D-Day, Bomber Command turned its attention from its usual targets inside Germany to other placed in northern France, so to ease the ground operations - an exception were the raids against V1 and V2 bases. Apart from this, consider the Low Lands were a hot spot for bomber interceptions, as it was supposed incoming raids had to pass over there - the many kills accrued there by night-fighter ace witnesses this. And, anyway... there's no Holland in IL2, nor German territory with the exception of the Berlin area, and maps are somewhat smaller than what we're used to Marco

Saturday evening would be good to me, but not this one, the next to come instead, and anyway let's see if Fritz has time to join us, as I fear it might be uncomfortable for him. Paul (and everybody), please take note that it is essential that all of us have the same release, which is the 3.1a: in order to have that, you have to install two patches - I posted both the links somewhere else here at the Owl's Barn, but can't find where right now. Once done this, just let's set a date and time, and I'll be happy to host the game Marco
